Few kids' books clearly show the consequences words can have when they are used as weapons. This book is one of them, and does it in style. <p>Even little kids understand the consequences here, because the ripple effect is illustrated so well. Andrew's older sister ran to answer the phone, tripping Andrew and spilling him and his toys in the process. He then spewed "the angriest bunch of words anyone has ever heard."<p>As soon as he said them, he wished he had not. But it was too late. Marion got on the phone with Ted, the baker's son, and yelled at him, who yelled out the window and into a room where a poet was working. The poet lost his rhyme, and screamed angry words at a motorcyclist passing by. And so on. <p>The words went to some fanciful places, including a dragon's breath, but kids get the message: Once spoken, ephemeral though words seem, they have a way of traveling. <p>The story ends on a happy note, the happiest part of which is that kids finish this book understanding the hurtful potential--and positive power--of words.
This is a great storytale with a valuable lesson to be learned in regards to how our negative actions can cause a domino-effect of negative reactions in others. I bought this book for my five-year-old who started to say "angry words" after beginning Kindergarten. Not only has this book helped us in discussing "angry words" and why they are never appropriate, but we have had fun in the process reading this together! I enjoy the storytelling aspects of this book (lots of great opportunities to creat different voices with all of the interesting characters, i.e. poet, dragon, motorcycle man)and would recommend this book to teachers and librarians as a read-aloud. Enjoy - we have!

Bought this book for my 4-year old son Andrew, because it was on the list of books that supposed to help you control your child's anger. I can't say it had any effect on my son's behavior, but turned out to be an interesting reading for him. He loves to listen to it and is able to re-tell the story by looking at the pictures. Money well spent.

John Cameron Mitchell's stage show was infinitely better than this poorly directed version. It's self-aggrandizement to the nth degree. What do all the meaningful looks actually mean when one character sings to another? What is Andrea Martin as the Agent doing in the movie? Her character's actions make no sense. Why should we care about Hedwig? At least with the stage show you have the raw excitiment of live theatre, and you develop a rapport with Hedwig; however, here, it feels as though Mitchell just wanted to toot his own egohorn. It's just plain bad storytelling.

Had I been able to cut out the acted scenes and listen, sans picture, to just the music, I'd have rather enjoyed this strange little picture. Alas, since I am not locked in eternal angst over my sexuality, nor am I fond of indulgent, homoerotic navel-gazing, I couldn't get into "Hedwig and the Angry Inch". Obviously, there is a niche audience for this sort of material, and no doubt that niche adored Hedwig. For the rest of us who politely sat through this flick on behalf of wives/girlfriends... Well, what can I say?

Did I see the same film as the rest of the reviewers? This is overblown tripe without even the saving grace of decent music. You don't care about any of the characters, and the only positive feeling I experienced in the whole movie was a warm sense of satisfaction when it finally finished. <p>Mitchell beats you over the head with trite metaphors until your ears bleed - just count how many times Hedwig says he was born in a divided city!<p>If this is the rebirth of the musical, God help us. Give me Busby Berkeley and "Singing in the Rain" any day.

This is, without a doubt, the worst movie I have ever seen. Aside from lacking completely in worthwhile dialogue and storyline, this movie is blunt and disturbing for the sheer sake of it! I don't understand why this movie ever go past step pre-production. Unless you feel the need to be horribly repulsed and to enjoy pissing away your money, do not even consider this horrible excuse for a movie!
