A little rabbit describes what makes her angry and the different ways she can control her anger…. More >>

An excellent book with easy suggestions that even a young child can understand. Too often children are told to ‘do something constructive’ without them ever having any idea what that could be. This book empowers the child by giving them tools to address their scary anger. The softness of Cote’s illustrations adds to the calming effect of this book.

Therapist Cornelia Maude Spelman has written a wonderful series of books for children, teaching them how to cope with various emotions. In “When I Feel Angry”, the focus is on how to deal with anger, as experienced by a young rabbit. Written as a story, the young rabbit goes through various events that cause her to experience anger, but then the latter part of the book teaches the young rabbit how to cope with anger – by talking about it, doing exercises to calm down etc. There is a brief note to parents by the author at the beginning of the book that explains how it is important to teach children how to cope with anger. The illustrations are vibrant and colorful and help make the story real for children.Highly recommended series of books for toddlers and up!

We borrowed this book from a friend and then had to buy our own copy. It has good illustrations, is easy to read, and is short enough that my 4-year-old son had it memorized after just a few readings. Now he “reads” it to me and, since it IS memorized, its easy for him to remember what options he has when he gets angry. Excellent book!

As a parent of a preschooler and one who evaluates and counsels children with emotional and behavioral adjustment difficulties, this is one of the BEST books I have seen for young children dealing with this subject matter. The words are written in child-friendly terms, with the rhyming and prosidy that helps them develop early literacy skills while also learning appropriate coping mechanisms to deal with anger and frustration. The pictures are wonderful as well, and kept my son entertained and begging for me to read it again and again! Wow! I will definitely be on the lookout for more books by this author!
